Magazine Layout

Our final project assigned to us was a magazine layout.
Because we were asked to use our own photos,
I decided to design a travel magazine due to my recent trip to Italy.
There is still a lot of work to be done but here is what I have so far:

Part of the assignment is to create your own info graphic.
After I create the graphic, it will fill this page.

Two page article spread.

A contents page that is not close to being done!

The cover page.
I might have to find a different image because my image was not large enough.

Final Book Cover- Carrie

Here is the final version of my book cover design for Carrie by Stephen King:
(click on it for a closer view)

Unfortunately, when printed it kept turning out much darker than I would have liked. I tried to solve this problem by using brighter reds and lighting the whole image.

Book Cover

Our next assignment is to recreate a book cover for any book of our choosing.
I chose Carrie by Stephen King.
Its creepy and definately not my ususal style, which is precisely why I chose it.
I also watched the movie when I was 14 and was a little scared.
Yes, I will admit it!
Here is the book synopsis from stephenking.com:
The story of misfit high-school girl, Carrie White, who gradually discovers that she has telekinetic powers. Repressed by a domineering, ultra-religious mother and tormented by her peers at school, her efforts to fit in lead to a dramatic confrontation during the senior prom.
The "dramatic confrontation" means she gets pigs blood dumped on her and she goes crazy and kills everyone. She also destroys the town.
My idea was to take my beautiful friend Beth out to a location and shoot her as Carrie. I chose to take her to some railroad tracks in a forested area hoping for darkness and also because that is where Carrie dies.
Unfortunately it was sunny that day, so I am hoping to make the images darker/creepier in another way. I bought Beth a prom dress from the D.I. and made sure it could flow, be a dress from 1974, and ultimately be light in color so that it would contrast the dark atmosphere. I also bought fake blood and a tiara because Carrie gets named Prom Queen before her "gift" is given to her.
Here are some of our images from our little photo shoot:

Pictogram Project

For our first official assignment, we were to create three pictograms/pictographs that must correspond with one theme.

We first created thumbnails followed by roughs, printouts, and then the final product.

Here is my process:

Thumbnails:
My original ideas were camping/outdoors, tourism, and holidays.
I agreed with fellow classmates when we decided this was too obvious and overdone.
So i kept brainstorming.

Roughs:
Below are more detailed sketches of my new idea; the lifecycle of a student (study, party, eat or sleep).

But as i was sitting at my computer to begin drawing my idea, I suddenly came up with an idea i liked better, balding.
I thought it would be fun to do the process of gaining hair back after being bald.
I then hurried and did some quick sketches of what it could look like..
(They were VERY quick).
I drew a man holding a hat he has to wear to hide his baldness.
In the middle is a man using a hair growth cream.
In the third image would be a man with fully restored hair.

Printout:
I then drew these images in Illustrator.
We also were to create a smaller and simpler black and white version of the pictrogram.

However, in my last meeting with my classmates, I decided to alter the idea once more.
Instead of being the process of hair growth, my theme would now be solutions to baldness.
Here is my final product and what I turned in for my class.
Solutions: Hats, Creams, and a Toupee.

And that is my pictogram! :)

Collage Assignment

This blog was created to showcase the artwork I have been creating while attending school.

This is my first assignment for my Computers and Art class. We were to create a collage and then duplicate it in Adobe Illustrator.

Here is the duplicate:
